Ever since I first got into photography, I have brought my camera nearly anywhere and everywhere…even more so now that I have a business. But why exactly do I think to take my camera before anything else (purse, phone, etc)? Why do I rarely leave it at home?
Here are my four reasons for why I bring my camera everywhere I go, and why you should too!
When I need it, it’s there. I like the feeling of being ready for anything. If something catches my eye, my camera is there waiting for me to take a photo. Better than leaving it at home and regretting it (which has happened to me on more than one occasion).
I get to know my camera better. I’ve reached the point where I don’t need to look at my camera to turn dials and press buttons. I know where everything is on my camera, which saves a lot of time.
I’ve learned how to take photos in any situation. Morning, noon, night, indoors, outdoors…Learning by doing is so important, and what better way to learn how to photograph anywhere and anytime than to take your camera with you, right?
I’ve greatly improved my photography. A famous quote by Henri Cartier-Bresson is “Your first 10,000 photographs are your worst.” Which means you have to practice in order to realize your mistakes and improve. Which means the more photos you take as you learn, the better your photos will turn out. You probably won’t start out taking beautiful, spectacular photos, so get out there and practice!
I hope this post has motivated you to bring your camera everywhere! If you take your camera with you and have a story to share, I’d love to hear about it in the comments below!
Happy Shooting! 📷
